Reincorporando
Xdzunúm Danae Trejo

a handmade danza a mano

What moves?
"Reincorporando" is a series of conversations between the crafter and the crafted. Drawing from the choreographer’s youth in central Mexico, where her house shifted between several configurations: a domestic space, a workshop, a studio, a stable, a gallery, a theatre; the imprints of these environments take form in a vacillating dialogue between three figures (Xdzunúm Danae Trejo, Olga Popova and Ekaterina Kaliuzhnaia) and the stillness of things in a quiet place. The talking is scattered in a body in the shape of movement responses that reference the labour in the crafting of materials and the experiences that give them form. This workshop, this house theatre of domestic scenes, is what we see and touch, but what is felt is more obscure. The figures are agitated by the materials in the room that notice them, and the materials are noticed by the figures in the room that agitate them. The performance opens a window to inner landscapes transported by different people that coinhabit one household. It is a trade. It speaks of their migrations and the constant crossover of their lives and this instant.

This dance takes elements from a Mexican street performance tradition, now rare, in which a toy skeleton - no larger than a finger -, appears to move on its own, as if by magic. It follows the orders of a performer, who is its master. This folk art-form (often a playful swindle) is called Calacas Siriacas. The master requires an accomplice, known as the Palero, to this illusory act. This performer pretends to be a spectator, but manipulates the invisible nylon fishing-line that gives the skeleton life. The mechanisms of this little spectacle inspire the threads of "Reincorporando," which springs from the urge to make visible how communities are continually formed around art and artwork, and how they are significant spaces of connection between nationalities and different educational and economic backgrounds.
